QLD Government payment to GP's

Form and agreement with GP's to provide an additional payment for seeing and managing pensioners/welfare recipients/ chronic patients to cover the gap payments that currently exist between Medicare payments and actual costs.

Why the contribution is important

This would allow more patients to be managed by their long serving GP's instead of having to present to an ED every time and be seen by someone new who does not know there history, and without the pt having conerns about meeting the out of pocket expenses.

Medicare benefits are not payable where the service is rendered by or on behalf of, or under an arrangement with the Australian Government, a State or Territory

So, such an arrangement would have to cover the WHOLE fee for the GP, not just the gap. There'd be NO rebate from Medicare.

Good news is the rebates are fairly small in the scheme of things (under $100) where the savings on ED visits may exceed $300
