Support workers in developing their careers which will in turn help Metro South

All employees should be encouraged to develop their skills through higher acting duties with a plan for how these newly acquired skills will be integrated into their home area upon return. Anecdotally, people are acquiring skills from other areas and are not given the platform to integrate these skills in their substantive place of employment leading to multiple loss opportunities. Additionally, planning should be undertaken to support people to undertake higher acting duties as this will only help the HHS.

Why the contribution is important

My idea is important because it is very clear to me that employees are protective of their own roles. Therefore, through employees being supported in undertaking different roles people will obtain new skills which can lead to further training and upskilling of other employees in their substantive areas upon return. Additionally if employees are given the opportunity upon return to implement their new skills and ways of thinking there will be opportunity for quality improvement at a local level. If this is implemented across the HHS it seems clear that inefficiencies can be resolved whilst being cost-effective.
